Janelle Green claimed her first world championship October 28, 2016, in Perry, Georgia, with a smoking 15.015 aboard HF Shes A Sharp Blonde to become the 2016 National Barrel Horse Association Senior 1D World Champion, earning $1,089, a Gist Silversmiths buckle and a new 4-Star horse trailer. 2015 open 2D world champion Doug Kerstetter and Strait In followed closely with a 15.041 for reserve world champion honors and $814.
“I won the first round and felt very blessed to have done that, because my brother-in-law [Talmadge Green] was really fast in the second round, and he still had to run in the finals after me,” Janelle said. “ I was very tickled with my run. [HF Shes A Sharp Blonde] performed very good, so I was really satisfied. We’re just blessed to have gotten a hold of her.”
Janelle’s world title adds to a decorated Green family trophy wall. Her husband, Mike, earned senior 1D world championships in 2008, 2014 and 2015, and Talmadge claimed the open 1D title in 2013.
“[Winning my first world championship] is a little validation for me! I’m extremely blessed with the horses we get,” Janelle said. “To fit right in there with [Mike and Talmadge], I’m just so happy to be there.”
Dwight Rogers and Justice Rolls earned the Senior 2D World Championship with a 15.535, pocketing $922. Rogers, a lifelong barrel racer, made the trek from Frankewing, Tennessee, and will journey home with his first world title in-hand.
“I’ve barrel raced my whole life and never thought I’d be a world champion,” Rogers said. “It’s beyond words; it’s unbelievable.”
The Senior 3D World Championship went to Wanda Kirby of Cowpens, South Carolina, aboard Docs Country Nick. The pair clocked a 16.024 worth $757. MC Frenchmans Flame and Debra Pelletier of Trenton, Florida, won the 4D world title with a 16.547, earning a check for $593. Barry Capps and TDF Revenues Maniac took home the Senior 5D World Championship and $429 for a 17.036.
