“It was a good run,” Cervi said. ”It was a fast barrel race tonight. It’s been a fast barrel race all week, and I’m just enjoying being able to be part of it.”
Cervi and Stingray came close to calamity at the third barrel, coming perilously close to knocking it over as they rounded the back side after turning the first two barrels in brilliant fashion.
“I’m going to do better tomorrow,” Cervi said. “I’m not going to get that close. It was a little tighter than I wanted it to be, but it was fast, and I knew I had to be fast.
“I’ve been working my way to the top of the ground. I think that definitely helps. I was a lot tighter to the barrels. All three of them were pretty tight.”
Jill Moody remains in the lead in the race for the NFR Average title with a time of 97.04 seconds on 7 runs—just eight hundredths of a second ahead of Lisa Lockhart. Moody is on pace to break Charmayne James’ 1986 NFR Average record of 138.93 seconds if she can run a 13.96 or better in each of the next three rounds. Cervi is in third place in the average, only 15 hundredths of a second behind Moody.
Moody, Lockhart and Cervi are the only barrel racers who have yet to hit a barrel in any round.
Sherry Cervi remains in the lead for the World Championship with $238,601.71 in 2010 earnings, $67,554 ahead of Lindsay Sears.
