The award is in honor of trick rider Jerry Ann Taylor who always brought a sense of style to the sport of rodeo.  Known for her flamboyant style of riding and dressing, Taylor traveled the country in her trademark convertible Cadillac with matching horse trailer. 2_best dressed--kendra dickson-1

Taylor was a 1986 honoree in the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas, which honors women of the American West for distinguishing themselves by their courage, spirit and trailblazing.  Following Taylor’s passing in February of 2012, a fund was started in her name by husband Dutch Taylor, her mother Jo Matthews and other donors, to make the Jerry Ann Taylor Best Dressed Award possible.

“I was overwhelmed at the response the top 12 WPRA barrel racers showed at Fort Worth,” said former WPRA vice president Pam Minick, Ft. Worth, Texas and National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame Board member who was on hand to help present the award.  “It’s been a long time since the girls have looked so good.  I was proud of them all.  But Kendra really shined and sparkled from her hat to her blouse to her breast collar to the boots on her horse and even her back number.  She put a lot of effort into it and it showed.”

Dickson indeed looked glamorous on her way to not only winning the $5,000 Best Dressed Award but also picking up barrel racing checks from Ft. Worth totaling $7,971.71.

“I was just praying that I wouldn’t get moved out of the Finals,” said Dickson.  “I ended up going in splitting 11th and 12th with Sherry Cervi, so there wasn’t much breathing room.  With the help of my assistant, Hope Schuster from Pilot Point, Texas and my daughter, we were able to put all the bling on everything in about 11 hours.  But we had to start gluing last night before I knew for sure I had made the Finals because there wouldn’t have been enough time if I’d waited until after this afternoon’s matinee.  Besides that, the glue has to dry.  Like everything that’s worth doing, it was fun but also a lot of hard work.”
