“I thought he worked phenomenally well,” Lockhart said of Louie. “I think it’s just so crucial to nail that first barrel here. I think when you get off to a good start, it just sets you up for the rest of your run.”
Lockhart faced stiff competition, with reserve winners Jill Moody and TR Dashing Badger (“Dolly”) turning in a pain-peeling run of their own to score a 13.63. Championship standings leader Sherry Cervi and “Stingray” came home third, and Benette Barrington earned her first NFR paycheck aboard Smooth My Credit (“Layla”).
“The competition just keeps getting better and better,” Lockhart said, “in all the events. We were talking today about how tight they were last night.
“It’s just one run at a time. You can’t control what happens. If we can keep making some money, then it will set you up good for the long run.”
Jill Moody remains in the lead in the race for the NFR Average title with a time of 69.01 seconds on 5 runs—still three tenths of a second ahead of Lisa Lockhart, who remains in second place.
Sherry Cervi remains in the lead for the World Championship with $210,638.97 in 2010 earnings. She needs just $4,391.74 to become the first barrel racer to surpass $2 million in career rodeo earnings—a feat she can achieve by finishing fifth or better in the 6th Round on Tuesday.
