“It feels great to be back here,” Meadors said. “The only thing that’s changed is the money has gotten better, and I’m old enough to gamble!”
Meadors switched to Mulberry after hitting barrels in the first two round while riding Fantasia Fame (“Fanny”).
“Last night, I got by my first barrel a little bit,” she said. “I just switched this mare to the left in February. She kind of had a reputation for hitting barrels and stuff, and she’s just been incredible to the left. Last night, I just don’t think we really got our angle right, and tonight, we still didn’t get it just perfectly, but it was better than last night.”
Second round winners Kelli Tolbert and RF Firefly (“Cleo”) split second place with fellow NFR rookie Sydni Blanchard and Firewater Five (“Shotgun”) after both ran time of 13.69. Lindsay Sears, Lisa Lockhart and Christina Richman split fourth place with times of 13.78.
Jill Moody remains in the lead in the race for the NFR Average title with a time of 55.38 seconds on 4 runs—three tenths of a second ahead of Lisa Lockhart, who moved into second place.
Sherry Cervi remains in the lead for the World Championship with $200,188.25 in 2010 earnings. She needs just $14,842.46 to become the first barrel racer to surpass $2 million in career rodeo earnings.
