A solid fifth-place run of 13.85 seconds ensured that Moody and Dolly would break Charmayne James’ 24-year-old NFR Average record, and a tipped third barrel by Cervi and Stingray gave them sole possession of the 2010 National Finals Rodeo Average title.
“Dolly went by the first barrel tonight a little,” Moody said, “and I was like ‘Uggh,’ and stomping my feet back up the hill because I thought that was going to get me, but we pulled it off in the end. It’s a pretty good feeling.”
Moody and Dolly’s 10-round Average time of 138.26 seconds topped James’ 24-year-old standard by two-thirds of a second.
“This is really special to me and my family,” Moody said, “and my horse and her family—the Thomas Ranch of Harrold, S.D.”
Angie Meadors and Brittany Pozzi guided their NFR round-winning horses, Mulberry Canyon Moon (“Mulberry”) and Yeah Hes Firen (“Duke”) to a co-championship in the 10th and final round of the 2010 NFR.
Both teams posted 13.67-second runs to top the third-place team of Lisa Lockhart and An Oakie With Cash (“Louie”) by a tenth of a second. NFR rookie Sydni Blanchard earned her sixth check of the Finals with a fourth-place run of 13.83. Moody and Dolly took fifth, while SherryLynn Johnson and Jeanne Anderson split sixth place.
World champion Sherry Cervi ended the year with $299,893.78 in 2010 earnings, the most she has made in any single year of her career and the second most all-time behind Lindsay Sears’ 2008 record take of $323,570.
