Noah Mills Wins NBHA 1D Teen World Championship

(Saturday, July 30, 2022) — Noah Mills from Opelika, Alabama, turned in a smoldering 14.644 to clinch the 1D victory in Saturday’s NBHA Teen World Championships short go. Mills won the title aboard 2015 gelding DC Doubleshotofvodka—an off-the-track Quarter Horse purchased by Mills’ family three years ago.

Mills says the path that has led him to a world championship title has been anything but easy.

“A couple times we saw a slight glimpse of “Deuce’s” potential—we knew he was really athletic, but I had a lot of headaches bringing this horse along,” Mills said with a laugh. “It’s very rewarding to come through the valleys and have him take home a win like this.”

(Tuesday, July 26, 2022) — Regan Henning found herself a go-round winner at the NBHA Teen World Championships thanks to her 2017 gelding Socksnothavinacorona, as the pair clocked a 14.810 to best 1,172 competitors in Round 1 and earn $2,215.

The gelding, who was bred, raised and trained by Joel Henning and family, is by BHR Frenchies Socks and out of Famous Corona by Southern Cartel. “Kronk” was a top horse from the first run of his career, as young rider Regan jockeyed him to an eight-place finish for $10,000 against the top futurity trainers in the business at the 2020 Barrel Futurities of America SuperStakes, a futurity slot race for 3-year-olds making the first competitive runs of their lives.

Henning says she knew early in the gelding’s training that he had all the makings of a winner.

“He was very natural on the barrels from the start—most of them that are going to be that talented seem to be,” Regan shared. “He was clocking in the 1D at our local barrel races by April of his 3-year-old year.”

Interestingly, the second-place horse in Round 1 of the NBHA Teen World Championships was a 3-year-old slot race star as well. VF Leo Stinson, ridden by Cambrie Delaune to a 14.831 for $2,005, won the 2018 BFA SuperStakes for $100,000 with trainer Chris Martin on board for the Delaune family’s Del Farms. The 2015 gelding bred by Victory Farms is by Eddie Stinson and out of Licorice Leotard by Coup De Kas (TB).
