December 12, 2019 — Las Vegas — Hailey Kinsel Lockwood and DM Sissy Hayday won back-to-back rounds with a 13.54 in Round Eight of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Lockwood won Round Seven with a 13.60 and says “Sister” is starting to find her stride on the ground this year.

“She was a bit tight tonight, and the ground was a little heavier for everybody, so I felt like I had to move her through it a little more,” Lockwood said. “I think we are getting closer [to conquering the ground], just cutting corners a tiny bit, but she’s a super honest mare and just tries to do things a little extra fast sometimes, so keeping her consistent and solid is the plan.

After the back-to-back round win, Lockwood hopes to take advantage of tomorrow’s top-of-the-ground draw position.

“I get one really good spot on the ground tomorrow, so I hope to use that and learn from earlier in the week. I’m just going to try and make two good runs and do my best by her,” Lockwood said.

This marks Lockwood and Sister’s third trip to the National Finals Rodeo and the Cotulla, Texas, native says her 8-year-old mare has changed with age.

“She’s definitely evolved a lot as a horse and a competitor. She tries so, so hard and always has, she’s just learning how to use her body a little differently rodeoing—being on different ground and different atmospheres does that,” Lockwood said. “I’m just thankful she’s been sound her whole career and happy and loves her job.”

Lockwood picked up another $26,230.77 for the round win, bringing her NFR earnings to $114,076.93 and solidifying her lead in the world standings with total world earnings of $262,943.57. Amberleigh Moore trails Lockwood’s world standings lead by $54,961.27.
