December 14, 2018 — Las Vegas — Hailey Kinsel raced to victory aboard DM Sissy Hayday in Round Nine, clocking a 13.40 to mark the fastest time of the 2018 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and her fourth go-round win of the week. The duo ran last on the ground, although Kinsel says she didn’t ride much differently.

“I maybe should have rode a little better last night when I was second on [the ground],” Kinsel said with a laugh of her downed barrel in Round Eight. “My horse seemed to really like it when it was broke up like that, so I figured I’d let her dig in a bit more. It’s so nice to have it so good all the way through.”

She says the WNFR can be challenging with the increased pressure, but Kinsel has become known for mastering the mental aspect of competition.

“The biggest challenge is probably not thinking about the fact that you’re at the NFR, and just enjoying it. Knowing that it’s the same pattern we always run on the same horse we always run,” Kinsel said. “Yeah, there’s a lot more pressure, a lot of money and a lot of people here wanting to see you do good, but you have to block all that out and just focus on doing your job.”

With the win, the Cotulla, Texas, cowgirl and her 2011 mare by PC Frenchmans Hayday and out of Royal Sissy Irish by Royal Shake Em secure their stronghold on the No. 1 spot in the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association world standings with $339,277. Amberleigh Moore and CP Dark Moon (Darkelly x SRQH New Highs x On A High) sit second in the world with $209,127 in season earnings. Carman Pozzobon and Ripn Lady (Frenchs Hula Guy x Bijou Betali x Eli Betastreak) made another clean trip through the cloverleaf to maintain their lead in the aggregate with a time of 125.78 on nine runs.
