Hailey Kinsel of Cotulla, Texas, topped the first round of the 60th Annual Wrangler National Finals Rodeo with a time of 13.51.

December 6, 2018 — Las Vegas — Kinsel rode the standout palomino mare DM Sissy Hayday, the American Quarter Horse Association/Women’s Professional Rodeo Association Horse of The Year. “Sister” is a 7-year-old mare by PC Frenchmans Hayday and out of Royal Sissy Irish by Royal Shake Em. Sister has won more than $1 million for Kinsel in the mare’s relatively short career so far. They won RFD-TV’s The American Rodeo in 2017, as well as the College National Finals Rodeo. That same year, Kinsel qualified for her first WNFR and set the arena record of 13.11. 2018 marks Kinsel and Sister’s second trip to the NFR, and the dynamic duo is settling in right where they left off.

“[The run] felt really good. I slipped on the first barrel, but she stayed really honest the whole time, a little short the rest of the run after slipping like that, but she stood up and took care of herself,” Kinsel said. “Sister feels great. She felt really good tonight.”

Kinsey picked up $36,231 for the round win, bumping her world standings earnings from $192,834 to $229, 065. Nellie Miller holds onto the No. 2 spot in the world standings after picking up fourth in the round.
