What if there was a true WPRA World Champion Barrel Horse? Which horse has won the most money during a pro rodeo season? It’s not necessarily the horse that the world No. 1 is riding when the dust settles in Las Vegas.
EquiStat, the statistical division of Cowboy Publishing Group, has tracked WPRA pro rodeo earnings since 2011. It’s a difficult process, as volunteers have to rely on social media or make direct connections with contestants to obtain the names of each individual money-earning horse.
Much like the media guides do for each contestant at the National Finals Rodeo, here are short profiles on each of the 2023 NFR barrel racing horses that helped members of the WPRA top 15 qualify for Las Vegas.
Note: Money totals may differ, as neither EquiStat nor the WPRA completed their audits when this information was compiled. Horses are given a “qualification” if they contribute to a qualified rider’s regular season earnings.
