The duo’s time of 13.46 seconds broke the previous record of 13.49 seconds set in the 8th round last year by Sherry Cervi and MP Meter My Hay (“Stingray”).
“It means a lot to me [to have broken the record],” Pierce said. “To be up there with Stingray, and Sherry’s my idol, has been forever, is just crazy. It’s phenomenal. I can’t wait to go see her.”
The record time gave Pierce and Dillion the round win by a third of a second over the second-place team of Lisa Lockhart and An Oakie With Cash (“Louie”), who posted a 13.79 just one run earlier.
“When I turned the first, I knew he was on his game,” Pierce said. “I just really rode him extra hard up into the second barrel, and I could feel him getting tight on me. Coming out of the third, he went into it great and came out of it tight. Most of the time, I’ll pick up my over and under, but I didn’t tonight because he was just working his tail off. I could feel it.”
Brittany Pozzi added to her lead in the race for the World Championship with $160,705.56 in 2011 earnings, now almost $26,000 ahead of second-place Lindsay Sears. Sherry Cervi lengthened her lead atop the NFR Average standings to 23 hundredths of a second over Sears.
