This year’s barrel race is a progressive event. There were 175 runs in the first go, but only 96 will advance to the second go.
Sue Smith recorded a 17.56 early in the day, and she held on to win the first go. Lisa Lockhart turned in a 17.63 for second, and Kaley Bass took third with a 17.65. Christine Laughlin came in with a strong 17.79 to earn fourth place, and Laura Lambert took fifth with her 17.83. Rounding out the top 12 were Fallon Taylor (17.92), Jill Welsh (17.94), Alicia Stockton and Britta O’Keefe (17.96 each), Ann Scott and Benette Little (17.97 each), and Cranna Roberts (17.98). There were only two other sub-18-second runs; Rachel Primm and Jaime Barrow both clocked 17.99.
The second go will be split between the eight performances of the Daddy of ’em All, with 12 runs per show. The 12 riders with the shortest time on two runs will move on to the finals on Sunday, July 27.
