Maggie Lee and Rylee Jo Maryman took home top honors at the Josey Reunion and Josey Jr. World barrel races, respectively, held May 3-5 and May 10-12 in Marshall, Texas.
The Josey Ranch has played host to more than 300,000 students since 1967. World champion Martha Josey continued the tradition she started with her late-husband, R.E., of providing a place of mentorship, and top-shelf barrel racing action. Each year The Josey Ranch hosts two major events at its ranch in Marshall, Texas: The Josey Jr. World and the Josey Reunion. The Josey Jr. World is open to any barrel racer 20 years old or younger, While the Reunion is open to students of Josey clinics.
Taking top honors at this year’s Josey Reunion, held May 3-5, was 10-year-old Maggie Lee aboard Janna Brown-trained mare DH Sal Leta Fame. The duo also finished ninth in the first round with a 16.552, behind first round and fastest time of the event winners Abby Pursifull and Reds Flyinbyu. Plus, the Lee and “Demi” went on to earn $1,079 at the Josey Jr. World the following weekend.

Rylee Jo Maryman and WYO Starlightspecial took home the Josey Jr. World title and a total of $7,512 aboard multiple horses. Maryman, of Louisiana, topped the first round aboard One Cupa Tees Sis aka “Ruby,” with a 15.902, which ended up as the fastest time of the event. She also finished second aboard WYO Starlightspecial with a 15.904. In Round Two Maryman topped the round again aboard Ruby with a 16.075, sixth aboard “Starlight” with a 16.397, second in the 2D aboard Clarks Billy Boy with a 16.705, and seventh in the 2D with Hank On Fire with a 16.76. In the Finals Maryman and Starlight took home the title with a first place time of 16.415.
