From the world record on a standard pattern to the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association record on a standard pattern, Barrel Horse News has gathered all the barrel racing records right here in one place.
Per the WPRA, a standard pattern is 90 feet between barrel one and two, 105 feet between barrel one and three and between barrel two and three, and 60 feet from barrels one and two to the score line.
It’s important to clarify the new record is on standard pattern times at WPRA professional rodeos. There are also standard pattern records in Brazil that are faster, and the fastest officially reported American recorded run on a standard pattern took place at a barrel race September 25, 2015, at The Ranch in Loveland, Colorado, when three-time WPRA world champion Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi and Kisskiss Bangbang (Dash Ta Fame x CD Nick Bar x Dr Nick Bar) ran a 16.479.

Brazilian Record on a Standard Pattern
Disclaimer: It should be noted that the standard patterns in Brazil are measured from the outside of the barrel, where the WPRA’s standard patterns are measured from the center of the barrel, resulting in a difference in measurements.
Per the ABQM rule book: the distance between barrel one and barrel two is 27.5 meters and must be measured from the outer edge (the closest to the fence) of barrel one to the out edge (closest to the fence) of barrel two and passing through the middle of the barrels. Thee distance between barrel one and barrel three is 32 meters and must be measured from the outer edge of barrel three to the outer edge of barrel one. The distance between barrel two and three is 32 meters, measured from the outer edge. The distance between the start line and barrels one and two should be 18.3 meters.
Per the WPRA rulebook: When setting the barrels on the marker, the center of the barrel shall be positioned over where marker comes out of the ground. Judges must check to make sure all barrels are properly centered on the correct marker each time they are set up.
