Talented barrel horse Dash Ta Vanilla, by Dash Ta Fame out of the Frenchmans Guy mare SX Frenchman, is taking a break at the Lazy E Ranch to rehabilitate after double knee surgery, following her 2012 National Finals Rodeo performance.
Owned by Alan Woodbury of Dickinson, ND, and piloted by Nikki Steffes, the 8-year-old mare made her first appearance at the National Finals Rodeo in 2012 after winning the Fort Worth Stock Show earlier that year and sweeping the Pendleton Roundup in 2011.
After Dash Ta Vanilla’s 5th place finish in the average at the NFR in December, it was discovered she had chips in both knees. Surgery was performed, followed by several IRAP injections. The mare was then moved to Lazy E Ranch for rehabilitation.
She is currently undergoing a regimen of low-impact hydrotherapy utilizing the Lazy E Ranch’s Aquatread underwater treadmill. During her stay, she has also been bred to legendary race sire Corona Cartel and is scheduled for an upcoming embryo flush.
According to Lazy E manager Butch Wise, “Hydrotherapy is a less traumatic means of exercise as compared to conventional conditioning. This provides a quicker return to normal conditioning and competition.”
Because Lazy E is a premier facility providing breeding and embryo transfer services, top race and performance mares are afforded a spectrum of reproductive services while remaining in an optimum conditioning routine, under the direction of the ranch’s Britton Collum.
