EquiStat Announces Return After Server Outage

EquiStat, the most complete data service in the industry, announces its full-functioning return after a server outage in late 2025 resulted in a delay to updated earnings records.

On October 8, 2025, EquiStat experienced a server outage resulting in a delay in tabulation and tracking of earnings in its database. As a result, event results were unable to be formatted and entered into the database, leaving the industry without timely confirmation of standings and earnings. EquiStat recognizes the industry reliance in its database and worked tirelessly over the past several months to get the database not only up and running, but back in its entirety. EquiStat is happy to report this effort has been a success. As of January 27, 2026, the EquiStat database was restored including the more than 40 years of fully intact data — excluding events that had yet to be submitted to its database during the outage.

While there is still a significant number of events not yet recorded in the EquiStat database, those figures will be entered as quickly as possible. As a result of the delay, the Barrel Horse News 2025 EquiStat Annual and Divisional Statistical Reviews featured in the March and April 2026 issues of BHN will highlight a majority of events submitted to EquiStat from January 1, 2025, to August 31, 2025, and a limited number of events submitted between September 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025. Because of press deadlines time simply ran out for some events to be entered prior to the March 2026 issue. As the data is updated those earnings will be featured online at barrelhorsenews.com

The Barrel Horse News 2025 EquiStat Annual Statistical Review showcases more than $55 million in barrel racing earnings from the 2025 calendar year. In comparison, in 2024 EquiStat tracked $64 million in total purse — while some of that difference can be attributed to the delay in EquiStat tracking there were also industry-wide factors contributing to the difference.

An equine herpes virus outbreak in November forced the cancellation of three of the richest events in the country. The Barrel Futurities of America World Championship was cancelled after the slot races and first round of the derby. The OKC Futurity in Oklahoma and the All-In Barrel Races in Las Vegas were also cancelled. Those three events alone accounted for nearly $2.8 million in 2024. Consequently, the EquiStat outage contributes only 10% of the industry total.

EquiStat is a key component of the barrel racing industry, trusted for documenting earnings, tracking standings, and showcasing the financial growth of the sport. When systems go offline, it reminds us just how vital this service is and how interconnected the industry has become through shared data. Together with event producers, who submit their results to the database, EquiStat remains the only place that tracks barrel racing earnings by rider, horse, owner, breeder, sire, dams and events.

“We realize this has been a disruption to the industry and we appreciate our users and partners for their continued support during this time,” Tysha Holderby, Managing Director of EquiStat said.

EquiStat’s dedication to service the industry continues to prove how EquiStat has become the most comprehensive and trusted statistical service in the equine performance horse industry, offering consumers data-driven reports not available anywhere else. The numbers matter — but so does the commitment behind them.

“I’ve been here long enough to know how important annual statistics are to the industry,” Holderby said. “I was facing this huge obstacle that could disappoint a lot of very hard-working people and I was crushed. Here we are, three months later and to say I’m proud of our EquiStat team is an understatement.”
