WASHINGTON, D.C.—The remarkable tale of America’s most heroic war horse has earned a spot on the coveted New York Times bestseller list. Robin Hutton’s Sgt. Reckless: America’s War Horse appeared on the newly-minted “Animals” bestseller list for the month of September 2014.
This once famous horse, recognized by Life magazine as one of America’s greatest heroes, has unfortunately now been nearly forgotten. But Robin Hutton is determined to reintroduce Reckless to the world. Not only has she been the force behind recognizing Reckless with a monument at the National Museum of the Marine Corps and at Camp Pendleton, she has penned the full life story of Reckless—sometimes comic, sometimes tragic—and caused a new generation to fall in love with this unlikely hero.
From an excerpt published in the New York Post:
“They would tie a wounded Marine across her packsaddle and she would carry them out of there with all of this artillery and mortars coming in,” said Marine demolitionist Sgt. Harold Wadley. “The guys down at the bottom would unload the wounded off of her and tie gun ammo on her and she would turn around right on her own and head right back up to the guns. She was always moving and unforgettable on that skyline in the flare light.”
Robin will hold a book signing this Saturday, September 27th at the Costco in Simi Valley, CA.
Event date/time: Saturday, September 27th at 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM
660 Park Center Drive
