Riley Key was the son of PRCA team roper David Key and WPRA member Tammy Key-Fischer.
According to a news report by KBTX.com, four teenagers, including Key, were involved in the accident, which occurred on Highway 36 near Brenham, Texas, at Big Sandy Creek at approximately 12:30 a.m., June 27. Eighteen-year-old Thomas Wolz and 19-year-old Ethan Sebesta were also in the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. Caldwell native Christopher Jackson, 15, was also in the vehicle before it crashed, but managed to escape with minor injuries.
A prayer service was held Sunday, June 28 at the Martin Luther Church in Carmine, Texas, and Riley will be laid to rest on Monday, June 29 in the family cemetery on the Dube Ranch at 10 a.m.
Flowers and condolences may be sent to the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings, Texas. A memorial fund in Riley’s name has also been established: the Riley Key Scholarship Fund, Classic Bank, P.O. Box 820, Giddings, Texas 78942.
