A third generation charro, Garcilazo incorporates Spanish tradition, colorful costumes and difficult maneuvers into a precision perfect horseback routine. Spending countless hours practicing his craft, he relies on athletic, intelligent horses to execute smooth and beautiful performances. Using primarily American Quarter Horses in his roping segments, he also uses a breed known as the Azteca, a cross between the Quarter Horse and Andalusian.
Sharing the tradition of the charro with horsemen across the world, including Europe, Canada, the United States and Mexico, Garcilazo has presented at White House engagements, New York’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Disney Productions in Paris and Buffalo Bill Wild West Shows in Holland and Germany.
As a winner of the prestigious PRCA 2007 Specialty Act of the Year award, the 2011 colt-starting event is not Garcilazo’s first rodeo. Based in Southern California, he shares his talent at rodeos, stock shows, horse shows and equine events internationally; however, this will be his first appearance at The World Championship of Colt Starting.
“I’ve wanted to perform at Road to the Horse for several years,” Garcilazo said. “When Tootie Bland complimented me and told me she wanted me at event, I was so excited. I always enjoy sharing the heritage and tradition of the charro and know everything happens for a reason.”
In tow with Garcilazo will be two of his American Quarter Horses, including an own son of Hollywood Dun It, a palomino stallion appropriately named “Hollywood.” In addition to these two horses, an Azteca will showcase dressage movements, reining maneuvers and special tricks.
Fans who were not lucky enough to snag tickets to the sold-out event can still relish in the excitement of Garcilazo’s performance and the drama and nail-biting suspense of the competition by tuning into the live internet webcast of the event, exclusively at BarrelHorseNews.com.
