The 2024 National Barrel Horse Association Youth and Teen World Championships took place July 21-27 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, Georgia. The Christmas in July themed race paid out just under $585,000 in addition to Circle Y Saddles to the division champions in the Teen and Youth along with Gist world champion and reserve world champion buckles, go-round buckles, finalist buckles and more than  $90,000 added among other prizes. As 2,148 horse and rider pairs from the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, Australia, France, Italy, Mexico, and New Zealand battled for a world title, 10 teams left Perry with the win.

Emily Gatlin and Fergies Fling took home the Teen 2D Championship. Gatlin purchased Fergies Fling in 2022 after she was successfully futuritied by Sharin Hall and Maesa Kummer. A successful week in Perry led to qualifying for the finals on two mares, Fergie with a 14.955 and Miss JB 1316, the 2013 bay mare by Chasin Firewater, with a 14.909 in the first round. Gatlin turned a 14.719 in on Fergie in the finals.

“It’s unreal. It honestly still hasn’t set in,” Gatlin said. “I believe everything happens for a reason.” Gatlin thanks God for blessing her with such an amazing and talented group of horses and the best support team, Chad and Alysia Becnel, Dustin Angelle, Clay Espey, Jaci Lott Myers, Logan Lemoin, Joe Caygle III, and Sarah Rose Waguespack.

“Without them in my corner I wouldn’t not be where I am today,” Gatlin said.
