Hall’s Haul: NBHA Arizona Super Show

Young Dusky Lynn Hall topped the Open and Youth 1D averages aboard new mount Rakin In A Fortune at the NBHA Arizona Super Show.

The National Barrel Horse Association Arizona Super Show boasted stiff competition in Buckeye, Arizona. As part of a jam-packed month of barrel racing at the Buckeye Equestrian and Events Center, the event drew more than 250 entries in Friday’s and Sunday’s Open races and over 350 entries Saturday.

Dusky Lynn Hall clocked three consistent times of 17.031, 17.005 and 17.066 on her new horse Rakin In A Fortune to win the Open and Youth 1D averages as well as Saturday’s and Sunday’s Open races for a total weekend haul of $4,624. Photo by Lexi Smith Media.

Dusky Lynn Hall won the Open and Youth 1D averages on Rakin In A Fortune, a gelding who recently joined her string only a couple months prior to the show.

“He came from Lisa Kisner in Kansas, and he was very connected to her, so it took him awhile to finally get connected to me,” the 11-year-old $1 million rider said. “Finally he was like, ‘OK, I think this might be my person.’ He’s just a calm old soul.”

With Kisner, “Chino” racked up close to $30,000 in EquiStat reported lifetime earnings. He’s well on his way to adding to that total now with Hall at the reins.

At the NBHA Arizona Super Show, the pair was the picture of consistency. They were second in Friday’s Open with a 17.031, worth $717. They won Saturday’s Open with a 17.005 for $1,210 and earned another win Sunday with a 17.066 for $834.

“He’s simple and easy. I gave him plenty of pocket, so he just sucked up his first barrel. He ran his little tail off,” Hall said.

The young jockey says Chino differs from her other horses in that he has a stiffer style of running, but she’s learned to adapt with help from Kisner.

“He’s more straight-bodied, and my other horses are more bendy,” Hall said. “Lisa said to give him a lot of pocket to his first barrel and trust him.”

Hall thanked her sponsors Master Saddles, SaddleRight, Succeed, Signature Stall Mats, Good Juju Products, Badwater Tack, Fastest Time Wins, Rodeo Rhymes, Cold Creek Equine, OE Nutraceuticals, Outlaw Equine, MVP, 100X Equine, TLC Animal Nutrition, EquiFlow Recellerate, Seminole Feeds, Western Dove, Metrix Logistics Group, Healthy Equine Therapy, If Branded Clothing, Equine Flair Strips and TOML.
