Halyn Lide kicked off Cowboy Christmas with a big win aboard Jettin Ta Heaven, taking home over $9,000.
Halyn Lide started her Cowboy Christmas run with a big win, placing in both rounds of the Greeley Stampede in Greeley, Colorado, where she ran the fastest time of the entire rodeo in the finals and won the average, taking home the championship and $9,711 aboard Jettin Ta Heaven.
The 2012 gelding by JL Dash Ta Heaven and out of Zeros Gypsy Jet by Three O Jones has over $185,000 in reported EquiStat lifetime earnings, while Lide has over $197,800 in EquiStat lifetime earnings.

“He’s out of a mare I ran in college before she was injured, Zeros Gypsy Jet, and I made her the foundation of my breeding program,” Lide said. “Round One was wild. I think he thought the setup was going to be like the previous year and went in looking for barrels in the wrong places. Round Two he had to step off the first barrel but turned the second extremely fast. His third barrel wasn’t perfect, but he kept moving forward. In the finals, he was confident. He was able to come around the first barrel fast, had a great second and a wild third barrel. I like a pretty pattern, but fast is more important in rodeo. He kept moving fast around the third, and it all worked out.”
Lide approached Greeley with a goal to improve from last year. Keeper as well as a great support team are what have taken her career to the next level.
“I plan to see it through the end of the season as long as my horses still want to go,” Lide said. “I’m excited to go to Calgary this year.”
The difference in a good horse and a great horse, Lide added, is their confidence and willingness to listen to direction. She is also traveling with Hez Runnin Ta Heaven, a 2013 gelding also by JL Dash Ta Heaven.
“This is a game of perseverance. We all fail all the time. We just have to try again,” she said.
