Northwest Rodeo Updates

The Women’s Professional Rodeo Association barrel racers are lighting up the arena at the Northwest rodeos.

Summer Kosel topped the Gooding, Idaho rodeo with a 16.66 worth $6,740 aboard Firewaterfrenchfame (Aint Seen Nothin Yet x Fire Water Flyer x Fire Water Flit). Kosel is No. 22 in the WPRA world standings with $80,473 as of August 19.

Carlee Otero and Am Regina George (A Smooth Guy x Pro Rose x Man In The Money) won the rodeo in Moses Lake, Washington with a 17.03 for a $6,644 check. Otero is No. 5 in the WPRA world standings as of August 19 with $138,123.

Makenna Shook and XV Mario (Rr Mistakelly x Xv Watch Me Rock x Famous Bugs) ran a 16.53 in Burley, Idaho setting a new arena record and unofficially the new WPRA record on a standard pattern, also winning $2,157. Shook is No. 3 in the WPRA Rookie of the Year standings as of August 19.

Megan McLeod-Sprague and Seis Corona (Dash Ta Fame x Tell Em Belle x Tres Seis) topped the Canby, Oregon rodeo with a 16.29 worth $5,706. McLeod-Sprague is No. 7 in the WPRA world standings with $130,339 as of August 19.

Emma Parr had a killer week in Montana as she aims for the Rookie if the Year title. Parr and Pipe Down Compromise (No Compromises x Wildfire Revenge by Second Down Kelly) won Baker, Montana with a 15.77. They also won Rodeo Billings in Billings, Montana with a 17.27, and the Northwest Montana Fair and Rodeo in Kalispell, Montana, posting a 17.12. In total, Parr added $9,713 to her earnings. As of August 26, Parr is No. 2 in the Rookie race with $64,959.

Makenzie Mayes placed fifth in the first round of the Horse Heaven Roundup Rodeo aboard Chicado Moon (Guys Canyon Moon x Chicados Bully x Chicados Cash) in Kennewick, Washington with a 17.20 worth $1,949. She won the finals with a 16.97 seconds worth $1,256 and the average with a time of 34.17 seconds on two runs, earning an additional $4,092. Mayes is No. 1 in the WPRA Rookie standings with $65,660 won as of August 26.

Summer Kosel made big moves in Ellensburg, Washington as she sits on the bubble of a second NFR qualification. Kosel and Firewaterfrenchfame (Aint Seen Nothin Yet x Fire Water Flyer x Fire Water Flit) were fourth in round one with a 17.18, second in round two with a 17.15 and topped the finals with a 16.99 and the average with 51.32 on three runs. In total, her and “Apollo” claimed $10,499.

Katelyn Scott, who also sits on the top 15 bubble in pursuit of her first NFR qualification, earned $6,928 in Ellensburg aboard Justa Dtf Frenchman (Aint Seen Nothin Yet x Madeline Spade 410 x Justa Hickory Spade) and ran the fastest time of the rodeo, a 16.79 to win round two.

Hayle Gibson-Stillwell holds the No. 9 spot in the WPRA world standings and is well on her way to her first NFR qualification. After winning the Lewiston Roundup aboard 2019 mare Buncha Dinero in early September, she added $5,702 to her earnings.
