The competition was tough from the first run to the last and when the dust settled it was Elbert, Colorado’s Kim Schulze and her gelding French Dream who dominated the Open 1D average. The pair started the weekend by claiming top honors and a check for $786 when they posted the 1D winning time of 17.27 to edge Mary Cecelia Tharp and Hanks Lively Bug who stopped the clock in 17.34 seconds. Schulze came back on Sunday delivering a serious one-two punch when she earned first aboard Vegaspeed in 17.099 seconds to post the fastest run of the weekend, which was worth $716. Schulze took second on French Dream whose 17.24 second run handily delivered the Open 1D average championship and a beautiful Tres Rios buckle, Spin3 Productions championship jacket sponsored by Knobbs Chiropractic and gift certificates from Cowgirl Tuff Co., Formula 707, Bingo’s Saddlery, Pikes Peak Animal Supply and Kathy Gannon. Schulze’s total on two runs was 34.510. Finishing second in the Open 1D average was Mary Cecelia Tharp, while NFR qualifier Shali Lord rode Bar None Extremes to third and Laura Lambert and Triple Frost Chick rounded out the top four.

In the 2D average Tawni Salzbrenner and Rocket Fol posted a 35.560 for first to edge Jackie Stewart aboard Coreys Cash. Darla Bauer finished third in the 2D average while Karen Densmore rounded out the top four. Jayme Starr and Kruse took home the 3D average title while Kim Supan and High On Harris topped the 4D. The top four finishers in each “D” in the Open average were awarded prizes courtesy of Cowgirl Tuff Co., Formula 707, Bingo’s Saddlery, Triple Crown Feeds and Karen Densmore, Emerald Ranch, Knobbs Chiropractic, Great West Trailer & Truck, Pikes Peak Animal Supply, 522 Health, Rusler Implement Company of Rocky Ford, All Cowboy Erosion Control and Kathy Gannon’s mobile tack supply.

Perhaps none of the average championships were as hard fought as that of the Novice Horse. When the dust settled, it was Grace Ann Walker aboard Bullysprimetimediva who bested the field of tough up-and-comers with a total on two runs of 36.157 seconds. Walker went home sporting a beautiful Tres Rios trophy buckle and gift certificates in exchange for her hard work. Finishing second was Deb Roberts on Moon D Rocket. Natalie McCall and Scotch Time Pockets emerged as the Novice Rider champions on the strength of a 36.552. In the Senior division it was Deb Schroetlin and Dashing With Sis posting a total on two of 36.002 to secure the average. Lake Mehalic took the Youth average championship trophy buckle home to Arizona.
