Sometimes, getting back to the basics is just what every horseman needs to refresh our minds and attitudes. Spring is a perfect time to re-evaluate not only our riding and horsemanship, but the tools we use to communicate with our horses as well. The right equipment can make the difference between winning or losing, and even between a healthy horse and an injured horse.

The Tack and Equipment Issue has something for everyone. The equipment we use is vital to our success, but more than that it’s important to use the correct tools to communicate with our horses. In this issue, we delve into a few of those instances where the right equipment can make a big difference in your riding. From tips on basic tack care and cleaning, to headgear uses and adjustments, this issue breaks it down for you, beginning on page 26. Plus, beginning on page 46, Barrel Horse News advertisers showcase fun and functional tack and equipment products in the Special Tack and Equipment Guide.

As spring is in full swing and rodeo competitors prepare to embark on a summer of rodeo, we’ve got some tips on some of the biggest and best rodeos to add to your summer vacation calendar. Whether you’ve dreamt of visiting the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo or plan to hit the road yourself this summer, we’ve got some of the best places to visit, eat and explore while also taking in some of the most historic professional rodeos of the season on page 20.

As always, this issue brings you coverage from the biggest events of the season like The American Rodeo, The Patriot, Elite Extravaganza, and the Dixie Classic-Konra Minniear Memorial Race, all beginning on page 51.

We hope you enjoy this issue. Be sure to stay up-to-date online at barrelhorsenews.com as BHN staff bring you the latest news, entertainment and training tips in the industry.

Until next time, stay safe.
