Each spring, I take the time to visit home and help with spring work at my family’s cow-calf operation in Oklahoma. Vaccinating calves and getting everything healthy and ready to head into the summer months is important for the livelihood of our cattle. It’s the same for our horses.

Spring is the time when a lot of us make sure our horses are up-to-date on all their yearly vaccinations and health protocols. It’s also a good time to evaluate our horses’ health in general. If we want to be the best, then our horses need to feel the best, and that can be as simple as making sure their body and muscles are comfortable, to spotting conformational trigger points that might need further attention. Keeping our horses at the forefront is instrumental to our success as barrel racers.

This issue is designed to help you do just that, from understanding the newest protocols of deworming to the lowdown on popular — and sometimes controversial — pharmaceuticals like Lasix. Check out all this, beginning on page 22, followed by a special advertiser section featuring a collection of health and nutrition products for your horse on page 36.

As always, we have all the highlights from the biggest events of the season beginning on page 45. We’ve got the insights on the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association world standings after the winter stock show rodeos, plus mother-daughter duo Kelsie and Skye Miller dominated across the Northwest futurities. Not to mention, we’ve got the highlights from events like the Senior World Championships, GTBRA Perry Cup, Barrel Bash Chickasha, High Cascades Sanctuary Barrel Race and the NBHA Jacksonville Super Show.

We hope you enjoy this issue. Be sure to stay up-to-date online at barrelhorsenews.com as BHN staff bring you the latest news, entertainment and training tips in the industry.

Until next time, stay safe.
