2025 Rodeo Houston Barrel Racing Updates

Paige Jones and Famous Hayday

The 2025 Rodeo Houston kicked off March 4 in Houston, Texas, inside NRG Stadium. The rodeo is one of the major winter stops for Women’s Professional Rodeo Association members set to payout more than $2.5 million in total purse. The tournament-style format will run through March 4-23, where WPRA and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association contestants compete in consecutive rounds in their respective Series.

The Rodeo Houston Super Series consists of 40 competitors competing in eight events. The series is divided into five parts, each consisting of three rounds. Each of the three rounds includes nine contestants. The top four competitors in each Super Series advance to one of two Semifinal rounds. The top four competitors from each Semifinal advance to the Championship. The remaining six competitors from each Semifinal get one more chance by competing in one of two Wildcard rounds. The top athlete from each Wildcard advances to the Championship. The Championship will consist of 10 athletes. The top four in each event compete one more time in the clean-slate Shootout. With a total payout of $2,533,500, each champion is awarded $65,000, plus previous round winnings, a custom-made saddle and belt buckle, and an invitation to compete at Rodeo Houston the following year.

Kassie Mowry and Force The Goodbye Win Rodeo Houston

The all-time leading rider with more than $8 million in EquiStat reported lifetime earnings added $78,000 in Rodeo Houston earnings to hers and “Jarvis'” records. Jarvis made his rodeo debut in Round Six of the 2022 National Finals Rodeo. He won his first rodeo checks at the 2023 NFR, and 2024 was the first year he helped Mowry qualify for the NFR before having a storybook Finals to help Mowry clinch her first world championship.

Jarvis is a 2018 gelding by The Goodbye Lane out of VF Forcit First, who’s by Burrs First Down and has more than $1.5 million in lifetime earnings, prior to Rodeo Houston. Mowry and Jarvis battled through six runs to earn the Rodeo Houston title. They kicked off their showing in Super Series Three with second place in the first round, and topping the third round with times of 14.78 and 14.69, respectively. Those times earned them an advancement to the Semifinals where they turned in a 14.65 to top their section of the semifinals. Advancing to Championship Sunday they had to run back-to-back. They started strong in the Championship Round with a 14.70 to finish fourth — the last qualifying place to advance to the final four round.

In the Championship Shootout, Hailey Kinsel and DM Sissy Hayday were the team to beat with a 14.52. Mowry and Jarvis ultimately turned in a 14.50 to earn the win. Kinsel finished second, worth $30,000.

Prior to Rodeo Houston, Mowry was sitting in the No. 3 position in the WPRA world standings with $34,427 from seven rodeos. Megan McLeod-Sprague — who earned the 2025 San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo Championship — was sitting in the No. 1 position with $47,213 from nine rodeos.
