Breast cancer is second only to lung cancer in all reported cancer cases. Women are almost 100% more likely to develop breast cancer than men, while 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer at some point in their life. These are frightening statistics and there is no doubt that breast cancer is a very serious issue concerning women today.
There are many things you can do to lower your risk of breast cancer including a adopting a cleaner diet, daily exercise, and no smoking or drinking. However, the best defense against breast cancer by far, is early detection and treatment. Doctors are so confident that they can treat stage I breast cancer, that they give patients a near 100% five-year survival rate! Even those who have stage II still have about 92% five-year survival rate. This is a dramatic improvement from 75% five-year survival rate from the mid-1070’s.
With that said, the western industry has banned together to designate April as our very own Breast Cancer awareness month, and to give Tough Enough To Wear Pink it’s own platform every year. TETWP has been a partner of the western community for ten years to support families affected by beast cancer. The western community continues to support October as breast cancer awareness month as well, but rather duplicating the effort in the fight against breast cancer through fund raising, and encouraging women to get yearly check-up exams.
“This is by no means designed to take away from October being Breast Cancer Awareness month. Twisted X simply felt like this terrible disease could not be emphasized enough,” says Sandy Brazile, Marketing Coordinator for Twisted X Boots. “We will continue to support the national month of October. However, we wanted the western industry to show it support for this great cause through Tough Enough To Wear Pink. Twisted X, Wrangler, Montana Silversmiths, American Hats and Hooey Caps have joined forces to promote April as our industry’s TETWP month.”
Below are companies who not only designed awesome merchandise to show your support of breast cancer awareness, but a portion of the proceeds will go the Tough Enough to Wear Pink organization as well. Clearly it is important to keep breast cancer awareness in the forefront of our minds. Let’s make April another month to celebrate women by encouraging women to take action when it comes to their health, and to bring our western community together in support of survivors and victims. Get Checked. Get Re-Checked. Get a Second Opinion.
