Every year during the week of Halloween divisoinal barrel racing is showcased like none other. The National Barrel Horse Association makes sure to bring contestants the best facilities and atmosphere for top-shelf barrel racing, but they also make sure everyone is well entertained along the way. During the NBHA World Championships in Perry, Georgia the last week of October is kicked-off with a bit of a contestant mixer. On Tuesday, before competiton gets too intense, all the contestants gather inside the Reaves Arena at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and partake in a Halloween tradition. They dress up in their best, most creative costumes and parade through the arena. And let me tell you, if you think they get serious about the barrel racing, well they don’t slack on their Halloween costumes, either.
I was able to snag a few photos from the NBHA World official photographer, James Phifer of Rodeo Bum Photography, and I’d like to share them here. You don’t have to take my word for it, because it’s clear to see there were some pretty serious participants in this year’s Trick or Trot Halloween parade! Of course there was some class-act barrel racing during the week, too, so be sure to watch for December’s BHN for all the details about the winners of the NBHA World Championships. Until then, enjoy!
