2025 Puyallup Rodeo Updates

The Puyallup Rodeo features 25 barrel racers competing for big checks, a potential trip to the $1.2 Million-added Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and a National Finals Rodeo qualification.

The Puyallup Rodeo hosts 24 barrel racers who qualified through accumulating points at PRCA Cinch Playoff Series rodeos throughout the 2025 season as well as the 2025 NFR Open Rodeo Champion, held back in July in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The top four barrel racers in Puyallup will qualify to the more than $1.2 Million-added Governor’s Cup held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota September 26-28, along with the top eight in the PRCA Cinch Playoff Series standings. Winning checks in Puyallup and advancing to the Governor’s Cup could help solidify a NFR qualification for barrel racers on the bubble.

Set One competes September 4th and 5th, Set Two will compete September 6th at 1pm and 6:30pm followed by the semifinal and final rounds on September 7th.

Katie Halbert and 2019 gelding Le Roi (Jl Dash Ta Heaven x Kr Last Fling x A Streak Of Fling) top the first round of their set at Puyallup for a $3,510 check. “King” was trained by professional trainer Ashley Schafer and won more than $85,000 before hitting the rodeos with Halbert.

Anita Ellis and SGL Rico (The Goodbye Lane x Version Blue x Winners Version) top the second round of the first set adding $3,510 to their season earnings. Their time on 27.63 on two runs was second in the set aggregate allowing them to advance to the semifinals and claim another $3,510 check.

Emily Beisel jockeyed Teasin Dat Guy (Frenchmans Guy x Teasin Jetolena x Blazin Jetolena) to the set aggregate win with a time of 27.53 on two runs. She won $8,776 total in set one and advanced to the semifinals alongside Anita Ellis, Michelle Alley and Tayla Moeykens.

2024 NFR qualifier Halyn Lide sat outside the top 20 entering the Cinch Playoffs. Aboard Jettin Ta Heaven (JL Dash Ta Heaven x Zeros Gypsy Jet x Three O Jones) Lide topped the first round of the second set with a 13.71 worth $3,510.

Lisa Lockhart won the second round with a 13.70 aboard Blazin Ta Betty (Dash Ta Fame x Blazin Black Beauty x Blazin Jetolena) and the set aggregate with a time of 27.69 on two runs. She earned more than $10,000 in the set and advances to the semifinals alongside Leslie Smalygo, Halyn Lide and Chloe Gray.

Beisel topped the semifinals with a 13.87 aboard “Chewy” and advanced to the finals round with Michelle Alley who ran Lipstick N Stilletos, Lide and “Keeper,” and Tayla Moekyns on Kn Fames Best Yet.

After running a 13.76 in the finals, Lide and Keeper claimed the barrel racing title worth $13,400 and their spot at the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with another NFR qualification well within reach. Lide and Keeper finished second in the Puyallup finals in 2024, and their win in 2025 keeps a second NFR qualification in the cards as they move to the bubble in the WPRA world standings.
