LAS VEGAS — DECEMBER 13, 2024 — The dominating duo from Cotulla, Texas, can never be counted out of the race. Hailey Kinsel and DM Sissy Hayday turned in a 13.48 to win Round Nine of the Wrangler NFR, tie Charmayne James’ and Sherry Cervi’s record of 25 round wins and move back into the No. 1 position in the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association world standings. It will all come down to Round 10 and it promises to be a horserace to the finish. Yet, through the many records she’s broken and the world titles she’s won, Kinsel continues to hold onto her faith as her roadmap to life.
“The last couple days, I told myself just give your best effort, whatever that is, and quit trying to control results. It’s not your business, anyways. God’s already got that written,” Kinsel said. “That was the goal going into this night.”
Throughout nine rounds of competition the winners of the rounds have spanned across positions on the ground, from first out to last out. Kinsel has ran and won the round at draw 1, 14, 12 and now 14 again. Kassie Mowry, who’s won five rounds at this year’s NFR, has ran at draw 13, 11, 9, 7 and 5.
“My horse is really hard to tell a lot of things on, but I watched the first couple tonight on the TV that’s up in the alley, and I thought it looked a little looser, maybe,” Kinsel said of Round Nine’s ground conditions. “And truthfully, I think that’s better for my horse. She likes a little bit of a shifty sand, and there is a lot more sand in it than in years past. Randy [Spraggins] has done an incredible job trying to figure it out and get it right, and he’s had it to where it’s been best case scenario, as even as you can be top to bottom, which is quite a feat, because nowhere else we run 15 girls anywhere. I mean, literally, it’s against our rules now to run more than five or six, [at most places]. So that being said, he’s doing as good a job as he can. I think it feels good. I’ve been now top and bottom the last two days, and felt pretty similar to me.”
The 2024 NFR has been nearly a shut out with either Kinsel or Mowry taking home every round win — except for Round Eight where Mowry and Shelley Morgan split the round win. With the Round Nine win Kinsel has yet again put her name beside some of the most legendary competitors in the industry. This mark’s Kinsel’s 25th round win and she’s tied with Charmayne James and Sherry Cervi.
James earned her 25 round wins aboard three different horses, Cervi aboard five different horses and Kinsel has won all 25 rounds aboard the incomparable “Sister.”
“That tells me this is Sis’ record, not mine,” Kinsel said. “I always have this thing in the back of my head that someday I want to win a round on another horse, but for now, I don’t want to win a round on anything but that horse. That’s kind of our thing. And I think it’s so cool we’re able to get that done for for her — for her to have that accolade.”

Injury Report
In a statement from the WPRA an update on Dona Kay Rule, who was injured during Round Eight, was given Friday morning, December 13. The statement read: “After being examined by the Justin SportsMedicine Team following the eighth round of the NFR where Dona Kay Rule suffered a head abrasion, a left ankle sprain and a sacrum contusion she and her family made the decision to go to the ER for further testing. Everything checked out OK at this time but she has made the decision to doctor release out of Round Nine. Per the ground rule an injured contestant may, with a proper doctor’s release from a medical doctor on the official NFR medical staff, turn out. If he/she does turn out, he/she must turn out at least two consecutive go-rounds in an event before resuming competition. So as a result Dona Kay Rule’s 2024 NFR is now complete. We all wish her much rest and recovery and hope to see her in 2025!”
Standings Update
The world standings race has been tighter than ever this year with Mowry and Force The Goodbye coming into the NFR in such dominating fashion. Mowry and “Jarvis” earned five round wins, have earned $228,152 in NFR earnings and moved from fourth to second in the world standings. Prior to Round Nine they were also sitting third in the NFR aggregate, however hit a barrel in Round Nine moving them to fifth in the aggregate. Kinsel has also hit barrels and sits in the No. 6 position in the aggregate. Meaning, it will all come down to Round 10. It relies on who earns more money between the two famed athletes — which ultimately means in simple terms whoever is faster in tomorrow’s round will win the world title.
